If you’re new to the embroidery software world or if you’re looking into purchasing new software, there are a few things that you should keep in mind. Perhaps the most important thing is to make sure you are choosing the correct level of software. The only thing worse than finding out that you didn’t quite get all the features you need is finding out that you bought far too many. It’s much easier to upgrade to a higher level of software or purchase a few extra options than it is to downgrade your system.
Most software companies sell their products in different levels. Depending on the size of the company and the number of features available, each level is appropriately designed to suit the needs of specific audiences or proficiency levels. Lower levels offer lettering and editing software only, while the top levels offer some truly amazing artistic options and stitch types. The reason that software companies offer their products through this model is to open up their customer base to accommodate different types of users from beginners to professional digitizers.
A benefit that this sales model provides to users is that it will allow you to improve your software as your business grows or as you become a more proficient digitizer. Start off with the most basic level and pay the reduced fee to upgrade to a higher level only when you’re ready to do so. This method also gives you the option to start off by outsourcing your digitizing to professional designers, and then to begin to do it in-house once you have the proper experience.
Some companies also offer their features in module format. This is a good direction to look at if you know you only need one or two features. However, it can get very expensive as you add more modules. Remember to do your homework before you purchase your embroidery software. Figure out what it is you want to do from the start and determine your goals for the future of your business. Then, choose the software that fits these needs and offers the easiest path for growth.
